Our Gyroplanes

Our Gyroplanes

SUMMARY

We apologize for the confusion over the current name change. It has been brought to our attention that there are 3 new aircraft designs which also use the name, “Super Sport”. So we have decided to re-name our new gyro, before going into production,….exactly what it is…..the “Sportcopter II!” This way there will be no mistaking what it is and where it comes from. We are now currently moving throughout the website to make this name change throughout and that the Super Sport and the Sportcopter II are referring to the same design!

The Sportcopter II has features like no other two-place on the market today. It has a roomier cabin (49" interior width) for better cockpit management and comfort, and a very generous cargo room behind the seats. The cabin is equipped with forced air ventilation and cabin heat. The handsomely designed instrument panel is efficient and also compact. The fully glassed pod allows all wiring to be neatly tucked, out of the way, for complete protection. The panel face is precision lasered to insure a perfect fit for all gauges. This panel can be as sophisticated as you would like including glass cockpit instrumentation.

The cabin and engine of the Sportcopter II are completely enclosed, with removable doors and engine cowling, giving it all-weather capability, simplified maintenance, aerodynamic streamlining, added propeller efficiency and effective protection of vital components.

The engine and drive train is a special Subaru 2.5 liter liquid cooled engine which develops 190 hp.

The new shock-isolated Rotorhead is stronger than anything else in its category and the Sportcopter II can withstand structural trauma and corrosion better than any of our previous models, all of which have an enviable record of durability. All controls and instrumentation are duplicated at both pilot stations. The flight control system is a heavy-duty dual version of the same new "geared-down" Roto-Control system and each pilot has separate stick control. This means incomparable ease of piloting from either seat, making the Sportcopter II the best gyro-trainer in existence.

Owing to the Sportcopter II’s higher gross weight and the need for very rough-field capability, an incredible suspension system was selected for the main gear, furnishing maximum vertical undercarriage travel for absorbing extreme impact on landings. This system is also designed for slow speed, drop-in landings. The Sportcopter II will be equipped with an improved version of our original unique Swing-Arm Nosewheel configuration found in other Sport Copter models. So in case you were to land in a cross configuration, touching down sideways, this self-tracking nosewheel will help prevent roll over. A new Sport Copter feature on this design is a very Powerful Prerotator System which will allow incredibly short take-offs.

The large rudder and horizontal stabilizer provide stability in slow flight maneuvering and high-speed cruise, minimizing pilot workload. The fixed vertical stabilizer is less sensitive in-flight giving more stability and better handling. Our new Cyber Seats (which you will see on all our designs) are made of composite material, and they far exceed the technology of competitive models. The Confor-Foam® cushions, which protect your spine in hard vertical landings, are currently used on long range military transport planes and some fighter aircraft. Thanks to features like the Cyber Seats, Rotor-Control and Shock-Mounted Rotorheads, Sportcopter II pilots will be able to fly extended cruises in true creature comfort.

A version of the Sportcopter II will conform to the new SLA (Sport Light Aircraft) standards including the center line thrust feature. Due to the fact that this aircraft will have a higher cruise speed a proper center of pressure was applied to this design.

Sport Copter Inc. has long been known as the leading force in gyroplane design and currently there are no other cross country gyroplanes that will compare to the quality and performance of the Sportcopter II™

PROTOTYPE PROGRESS

WHAT IS THE CURRENT STATUS OF THE SPORTCOPTER II PROJECT?

The Sportcopter II just made its first flight on 9/11 and you can see the raw footage on You Tube (CLICK HERE)!

We are continuing to put it through the "paces" until it completes the flight testing process. We are simultaneously working up all costs on the packages that will be offered. We will offer (1) a "standard" kit which will be the basic kit less engine and prop package, (2) The "Quickbuild", high performance kit which will include all optional equipment and the kit will eventually be priced to purchase in "Stages" for the weekend builder. All costs and performance specifications will be made available on our website as soon as we receive all information.

The Sportcopter II was a big hit at the Oshkosh Airventure show and we are now busy gearing up for full production as dealerships are already being set-up around the World! All dealership information will also be made available on our site. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to call us during regular business hours (503-543-7000) and we will be glad to answer them.
